TROOPS of Operation Sahel Sanity have killed two suspected bandits and captured a Nigerien gun supplier.
The troops were also said to have rescued five kidnapped victims in Katsina and Zamfara states.
A statement by the Nigerian Army Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig. Gen. Benard Onyeuko, made available to journalists in Katsina on Monday, identified the alleged Nigerien gun supplieras Musa Abubakar, alias Kasko/Buzu from Mai Wake village, Dakoro area of Maradi, Niger Republic.
Abubakar was reportedly arrested on Wednesday on the premises of a school in Gusau, Zamfara State, where his relative works as a security guard.
The statement added, “The suspect is believed to be involved in the supply of illicit arms from Niger Republic to Nigeria through Sabon Birni and Isah LGAs of Sokoto State. The suspect is in custody and providing useful information to the troops.”
It was also learnt that troops conducted a cordon and search operation at Gurbin Baure in Katsina State on Saturday, killed two suspected bandits and captured three others in the process.
In a similar development, the troops were said to have rescued four victims earlier kidnapped in Sabuwa on Saturday.
A statement indicated that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, commended the troops for their performance.
Buratai urged them not to rest on their oars, but build on the successes so far achieved, even as he further assured the people of the North-West of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the safety of lives and property within the zone.
