MTN Nigeria has highlighted the support it is providing to federal and state governments, health agencies, subscribers and SMEs as the country battles coronavirus.
The company, in a statement on Thursday, said it was supporting the governments with communication systems, analytical response management and risk profiling to manage the outbreak proactively.
The telco said it had offered over N500m worth of airtime, data and analytics, through the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, to state governments to facilitate communications during travel restrictions.
It added that over N1.4bn worth of airtime, data and devices for connectivity had been given to frontline health agencies, including Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
According to MTN, 300 free SMS per month had been offered to all subscribers for easy communication with loved ones.
“MTN has partnered with Ayoba, a messaging OTT provider, to grant free daily data access to its subscribers. Free money transfers using the MoMo Agent Network from Y’ello Digital Financial Services,” the statement said.
In recognition of the immense importance of reliable telecommunications services during this period, MTN said about 2,000 SMEs it served would have 30-day grace on their March invoices and uninterrupted services in April.
MTN Foundation added that it had committed N500m to emerging medical needs.
