The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said children need good health to realise their full potential.
He said the state government would support initiatives that would improve children’s access to quality health care.
Sanwo-Olu spoke during the start of a free health care programme for children in Lagos, a statement said on Sunday.
The programme was organised by the state government in partnership with a non-governmental organisation, BOSKOH Lagos Healthcare Mission International.
According to the statement, the four-week programme started on Friday at seven primary health centres where children with visual and hearing impairment, as well as other life threatening ailments were screened for treatment.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said the programme would give disadvantaged children access to quality medical care.
“If children lack access to good health facilities and quality medical attention, they may lose their ability and functionality. We want to help them fight ailments that can put them at disadvantage. This is the reason the programme is essential to make sure our children live a good and fulfilling life,” he said in the statement.
The wife of the governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, noted that the intention of the medical mission was to bring down the rate of childhood diseases and disabilities.
