The Katsina State Police Command lost one policeman while three of its men also suffered injuries on Saturday’s attack by suspected bandits in some communities in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, confirmed the development on Tuesday evening while answering questions from newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Katsina.
He said “My men received a distress call that the bandits were operating in a community and they moved to the community. But by the time they got to the community, the bandits had already operated and left for another community. It was while in pursuit of the bandits that my men ran into ambush where they had to face over three hundred bandits operating on over two hundred motorcycles.
“My men fought gallantly, killing some unspecified number of the bandits in the process. Unfortunately, we lost one policeman but we were able to recover his rifle. Three policemen also suffered injuries in the incident and are being treated.”
