Former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has warned the team against losing their opening game at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, saying it could affect their chances of winning the competition.
The 1994 AFCON winning defender expressed optimism that Nigeria’s squad was strong enough to win the 2019 edition of the competition. He, however, warned against underrating any team, adding that winning the first game would boost the morale of the Nigeria players.
When asked which team was the favourite to win the 2019 AFCON, the ex-Eagles captain said, “Every contender there has the chance to win the cup. But if I want to be selfish, I’d say I want my country to win. “Of course, I want Nigeria to win. But the first game is always very important. Once we can win the first game, then I think we can go all the way.”
